When to hit or stand?

Published at 12. 9. 2009 in category Main

When to hit or stand? This is a frequent question. If you want another card to make your total 21, request a hit. You can request the dealer by tapping the table. Follow the etiquettes correctly. This leads to a decent play environment. Be clear so that only one card is dealt. Once a card is dealt, it can not be put back in to the deck. You are trying to make your total 21 or at least close to 21. Once, you are satisfied with accepting cards; you should choose to stand. This can be conveyed by shaking your head. Your total should not go beyond 21, or you will bust or lose the bet. Always remember that the game is always in the favor of the dealer. If you along with the dealer exceeded the total of 21, you will also tend to lose. As the dealer is supposed to hit, you have no chances of winning unless you make it to 17 or more. Doubling down is your primary advantage. Make full use of it. After you are dealt two cards, you can choose to split them and play two hands. You can double your bet. Do not split a pair of face cards, tens and fives.

Now that you are quite familiar with all the playing terms of the game, first step is done. To learn game’s basic strategy, you will have to understand that it is highly computational in nature. Blackjack is highly based on the mathematics. Try and understand the strategy in the form of simple equations. After the dealer has dealt the first two cards, you receive a 5 and 3 i.e. a total of 8. You should hit with out a thought. Draw another 3, to make a total of 11, hit immediately. You must be wondering, how you can come to know, when to hit, stand or surrender! Follow the instructions carefully. When ever you do not posses an ace, i.e. you have a hard hand, follow the following instructions. A total of eight or less always calls for hitting. If, you get a total of nine, hit. But if the dealer has a 3 through 6, double down (to double your initial bet). If you get a total of 10, hit. But if the dealer has a two through nine, double down. A natural blackjack occurs if the initial two cards dealt by the dealer sum up to 21. You posses a pat hand, if your cards sum up to a total between 17 and 21. Regular pay outs are 100%. Normally the payouts are more than the stake amount. There can be a situation where a tie occurs between the dealer and the player. In this scenario, no money is won or lost. A player has an option for splitting the cards and playing them as two hands. This situation is called as split hands. You can place more than one bet before the cards are actually dealt. This situation is known as spread. Hands which sum up to a total 12 to 16 are usually stiff. Your hand can bust if another card is added to it. If you have all the four cards of same types 1.e. hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades, you make a suit. This way you also make a suited blackjack. If you chose to surrender, you will be requires to forfeit half of your original bet amount if you do not wish to play against dealer’s hand. If you want to refuse to accept another card, stand or stay.

The Cards

Published at 18. 1. 2009 in category Main

Only first card that is dealt by the dealer is supposed to be an exposed card. This card is known as a face up card. These cards are used in a face up game. All the other dealt cards are hidden or face down. These cards are used in a face down game. Face cards are usually the cards which have printed faces on them for instance a jack, king or a queen. If there is no increase in the bet and the same stake sum is placed every time, the bet is called a flat bet. If a player has a hard hand, his chances of getting a blackjack diminish immensely. A hard hand is a hand without an ace. Sometimes, the ace also counts as its face value i.e. one. Under normal circumstances blackjack takes an ace as eleven. You can choose to double down if there is no ace in the initial two cards. You can also choose to play against the dealer himself. This game is known as head on. The dealer has one card face down known as the hole card.

If the dealer has already checked for blackjack and he doesn’t posses a blackjack, half of your money will be gone.

Surrendering at this point is called late surrender.

The deck of cards is split prior to the deal

The deck of cards is then split prior to the deal. This split is technically known as the cut which is done with the help of a cut card. This cut card (a simple plastic card) is provided to the player by the dealer himself. Deal refers to the distribution of cards by the dealer. You can also double your original bet. If you want to double down (the technical term for doubling your bet), you will get one more card but no more hits. Hit actually refers to an opportunity of getting one more card in order to get to the total of 21(i.e. desired total of the game). Draw refers to a situation where adding another card is allowed. It is similar to a hit. You can also choose to surrender early. This situation is called early surrender. The only condition is that you will have to decide before the dealer checks his cards for blackjack. When ever any player possesses a blackjack, the dealer shows a potential possibility. This is done with the help of an ace. Therefore even money is offered. If it is accepted, the dealer is supposed to pay out as his chances of getting a blackjack increase immensely.
